Hobbs washable wool batting is Resin Bonded and allows Outstanding Hand Quilting-108″ wideÂ
Natural fibres have become more popular each year and Heirloom cottons and wool batting are part of the reason. Hobbs has put together magnificent washable wool with the leading bonding process to make the finest wool batting in the world. As a natural fibre, wool is more absorptive than any other fibre. It breathes and acts as a natural insulator; helping to maintain a comfortable temperature, summer or winter.
Wool is exceptionally easy to quilt by hand or machine and can be quilted up to 4 inches apart. Heirloom wool probably beards less than any wool in the world and is resin bonded to provide resistance to fibre migration. However, quilters should test wool or white polyester battings for fibre migration if black or extremely dark colours are to be used in the project.
Wool has an open, medium loft (1/4″ – 1/3″), and it’s strong. It also provides really great stitch definition, so people who are quilting to enter shows will often use wool in their pieces to really showcase their stitching. Another great feature of wool is that it springs back, so it resists creases and folds. This is another factor that makes it ideal for show quilts, since those are always getting folded and shipped somewhere.
